Jacob Smith

My formal training started while I was a Jr in high school taking private saxophone lessons with Berklee graduate Raymond Johnston. After graduating high school in 1980, I auditioned for the U.S Army Bandsmen program. After passing the audition and upon completion of basic training, I attend US army element school of music in Little Creek, VA. Upon graduating the School of music I was assigned to Ft. Sill, Ok. While stationed at Ft. Sill, I attended Cameron University and studied Oboe under Dr. David Pickthorne. During the next 16 years, I performed on oboe and saxophone in various military bands around the world. I have performed in Japan, Guam, Tunisia, Macedonia, Croatia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxemburg, France, Italy, and Germany. I have experience performing various ensembles such as wind ensembles, big bands, jazz combos, sax quartet and woodwind quintet. Upon retirement in 2000, I continued to perform in various ensembles to include the South Jersey Wind Ensemble and the Atlantic Pops band.
